Could Keane Go?

June 30th, 2008 Jaymes 30 comments

Reports from a few fairly respectable newspapers have stated that Robbie Keane is a “definite target for Liverpool FC“.

Could we let one our most talented and loyal players leave?

Surely though, a club like Tottenham Hotspur, with all its aspirations of breaking into the Premier Leagues‘ elite four, would do everything in its power to prevent one of, if probably not the most important player at the club, leave to go to one of the clubs’ we are trying to dislodge from that sacred fourth spot? With Liverpool making their interest in Keane “public knowledge”, I feel that it’s only a matter of time before Robbie’s heart forces him into action.

A friend of mine (Villa supporter) asked me to put myself in his shoes. If I were a professional footballer playing for another club, and the team I supported (Tottenham Hotspur) came knocking, what would I do?

If I, like Robbie (who is turning 28 next month) was given this opportunity, I would seriously consider it. Being offered a chance to play for the club you support doesn’t come around too often. And being offered the chance to play for your boyhood club in the latter stages of your career could mean that the chance won’t come knocking again.

Another key factor in his decision making process would be his family. Robbie and his family have settled in Hertfordshire. Moving them all up to Liverpool on the chance that he will play Champions League football may be asking too much of them.

If Daniel Levy is serious in his attempts to get Tottenham Hotspur playing Champions League football every season, then our board have to act now, and they have to act efficiently if they are to keep a hold of their prized asset and the dream of even possibly winning the Premier League.

If the rumours that Liverpool are offering in the region of £8 million + Crouch, maybe the last word on the matter will lie with Juande Ramos.

Is Keane a “Ramos Player”? Does he fit into the system that Juande will deploy? What we do know is that Juande Ramos likes players that can switch positions easily. Robbie Keane is definitely one of those players. Whether he’s at White Hart Lane next season is anybody’s guess.

talkSPORT announce Spurs are close to Crouch & Bentley signings

June 30th, 2008 Jaymes 75 comments

talkSPORT radio have announced that Tottenham Hotspur are very close to signing Peter Crouch from Liverpool, and David Bentley from Blackburn.

The UK national sports station has stated that sources close to them have said that Spurs are “extremely close to signing Peter Crouch as part of the transfer that will take Robbie Keane the other way”.

They also stated that “Tottenham Hotspur are about to announce the signing of David Bentley from Blackburn”.
After all the rubbish that’s been circulating recently, I’ll believe it when I see it.
If anyone has any other info on the talkSPORT exclusive, please let us know.
